 May 1, 2008 The GGNRA has lifted the seasonal restriction for the Western Snowy Plover today. This means that you can walk your dog off leash (under voice control) on the West Beach at Crissy Field. As always, please clean up after your dog and if you see any additional pet waste or human debris, PLEASE pick it up and put in the garbage can! We have been getting a lot of reports of folks NOT picking up after their dog(s) - so, please, if you see someone who is not being a good canine citizen, ask them to pick it up. There are many doggie bag dispensers at Crissy Field that Crissy Field Dog Group volunteers fill at least 2 times a day! Use them. Click here to watch this video. December 10, 2007 CFDG is working hard to maintain responsible off leash recreation in the GGNRA. Below is a quick summary of where we are in the process. Reg-neg Process The last reg-neg committee meeting was held on October 27th. The Committee discussed several of the specific sites under consideration for off leash but unfortunately no consensus was reached on any of the sites. However, the GGNRA Dog Caucus put together an important binder (called the GGNRA Management Plan for Visitors with Dogs, corrected version dated October 31, 2007) that presented options for off leash at all twelve sites, addressed the other sites for on leash consideration and proposed a modified TAG program (a successful program that is sponsored by the City of Boulder, Colorado). This document was submitted to the GGNRA and all committee members at the meeting with the intention of having the options for each site analyzed in the NEPA process. Next Steps The next major step in this process will be the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that the GGNRA anticipates will be around Fall, 2008. The DEIS will analyze all of the possible impacts of off leash recreation in the twelve selected areas within the GGNRA. The public will have sixty days to comment on this document and if there are any significant comments, the document will have to be revised to address these significant comments. We will notify you when this document is released and give you directions on how to submit comments. May 22, 2007 As of May 1st, the National Park Service has lifted the seasonal restriction of the snowy plover at the West Beach at Crissy Field. We anticipate that the seasonal restriction will be in affect until early July when the plovers return. We will post a new notice here to reflect this change. This means you may walk your dog off leash under voice control until the plovers return. As always, please carry a leash with you at all times and carry several doggie bags to clean up after your dog. Enjoy!
